I was talking to Kai about the 2002 World Cup (it had a fantastic anthem by the way) when I remembered the song that they made the footballers record together back in that year. I did a search and found it on youtube! :DDDD

THE SINGING IS GAWD AWFUL LOL (my friend and I cracked up so hard so many times especially when watching the actual recording session) but it's so nice seeing all the familiar faces of the great players back then.

The point of this post, though, was that I was looking at the comments and I saw this:

"this video reminds me of what a golden era the 90s and early 00s was. yes today there's messi and some would say ronaldo, but then there was zidane, luis ronaldo, bergkamp, roberto carlos, henry, maldini, schmeical and probably even the greatest referee of all time pierluigi collini. all these figures were far more influential and popular than ronaldo, and perhaps even messi. that era may be the greatest in football history, the first wave of 'athletes', and before the crazy money."

I agree so much. So much. All those names, the legends of Zidane and Ronaldo and Henry and Figo, the feats of Oliver Kahn, Rustu Recber, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Cafu, Dida,...the list goes on. 2002 World Cup was such a joy to watch. A privilege to watch. I'll never forget the passion of S.Korea and the shocking upsets they pulled off, the fighting spirit of Turkey and USA and the most classic final: Germany, the best defense, against Brazil, the best attack.

Rivaldo dummying the ball to Ronaldo: one of the best, most memorable goals ever.

That was why I loved football.

2010 South Africa, please bring it back.
